Job Title: Recruiter

Job Purpose

As a key player on the HR team, the recruiter focuses their attention on finding the right applicants for the job and ensuring their first interactions and onboarding with the Nation are a positive experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Provide consistent, centralized support to Department Managers when it comes to recruiting new employees
  • Respond to internal and external job inquiries or redirect inquiries to the appropriate person within the team
  • Coordinate the recruitment and orientation process including;
  • Ensure adherence to our hiring policy as well as other related HR policies
  • Confirm positions have received the proper approvals from their respective managers
  • Verify job descriptions are up to date, accurate, and appropriately reflect the role
  • Format and prepare job postings, advertise positions on a variety of platforms, and manage postings
  • Collect and consolidate all applications and coordinate with the Department Manager to screen applicants, and assesses candidate knowledge, abilities and suitability
  • Arrange interview dates and times; contact applicants
  • Work with the Department Manager to ensure interview questions are developed and pertain to the role being interviewed for
  • Ensure reference checks are conducted in a timely manner and provide meaningful insight
  • Explain the Nation’s benefits package to potential candidates
  • Prepare letters of offer and seeks appropriate signatures

 

Orientation

  • Liaise with the respective manager of a position to develop an onboarding plan
  • Contact IT provider to set up a new employee’s account and access
  • Conduct new employee orientation, ensuring all letters, forms, and policies are reviewed, signed, understood and delivered to the appropriate department for confidential filing
  • Ensure new employees receive the SFN Human Resources Employee Handbook
  • Maintain confidential human resource files
  • Set up new employees’ benefits and pension plans
  • Schedule the probationary performance review meetings
  • Collect feedback on employee’s onboarding experience for continual improvements

Other duties

  • Maintain records of recruitment data & statistics: length of time a position was posted, number of applicants, turnover rates, etc.)
  • Assist the HR Generalist(s) with various administrative duties
  • Provide a shared service to Saulteau First Nations commercial entities as required
  • Support and work collaboratively with other members of the People and Information department to provide the best possible working experience for the Nation
  • Participates actively as a SFN representative in collaborative partner networks and in related community activities
  • Participate in SFN sponsored community events as required

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or another related field coupled with 1 year of experience in recruitment is preferred; other combinations of experience and education may be considered
  • Experience and knowledge of SFN is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality in the handling of information
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, a positive role model and the ability to pass a Criminal Records Check

 

Work Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday
  • Occasional travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community
