Job Purpose

While working at the center successful candidates will also take the Northern Lights Work Integrated ECE Learning Program to be eligible at the end of the term to apply for their ECE certificate.  The position is 20 hours a week from September 4th, 2023, to December 2024 and is a paid position. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Program and Student Support 

  • To assist the full-time staff of the center in their classrooms as assigned with various duties such as assisting the children, spending time with the children, helping to get program supplies needed set up and then cleaning up, help with keeping the classroom safe and clean.
  • Assist in outside supervision of children.
  • Help with the Breakfast, lunch and snack preparation and clean-up.
  • Promote the programs of the center positively.
  • Assist with capturing moments in photos and videos.
  • Work with staff on special events.
  • Work on assignments to be taken through the work integrated learning program to be eligible to apply for an ECE certification at the end of the contract.
  • Organize space, equipment and materials as directed.
  • Encourage and assist children to practice self-help daily.
  • Encourage children to use their words, be safe, and general classroom rules.
  • Be active participant in the team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

 

 Qualifications and Skills 

  • Must have a C+ in English 12 and be qualified to take the Northern Lights’ ECE program. All successful candidates must register to take this program.
  • Must commit to the full term of the program September 4th, 2023, to December 2024.
  • Obtaining this training will make you eligible for application to the BC ECE certification and this will make you eligible to apply for positions that will open for the new childcare spaces.
  • Valid Child Safe Certification or willingness to undertake immediately if successful in obtaining the position,
  • Ability to relate well to children and parents; work as part of a team and promote positive staff relations; ability to successfully interact with a variety of personality types and promote positive staff relations.
  • Recognizes and respects all cultural diversity.
  • Must undergo tuberculosis test and proof of immunization.
  • Ability to solve problems, make effective decisions, resolve conflicts, and manage time effectively.
  • The ability to keep confidential documents.
  • A positive role model and the ability to pass a Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector endorsement.

 

Work Conditions

  • Hours of work are primarily completed at the Center with hours scheduled as required.
  • Usual hours of work are between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday.
  • Outside supervision of children, weather permitting.
  • Periodic travel for fieldtrips, training or other work.
  • Lifting or moving up to 40 lbs may be required.
