Project Biologist-ASKI Reclamation LP

ASKI Reclamation LP is expanding their team and is currently recruiting a Project Biologist!

Primary Purpose                                                                                                  

Develop and provide well rounded knowledge of a variety of study fields including vegetation, soil and water to support the requirements for planning and monitoring of reclamation work.

 

Collect and document field data to support project and/or study requirements for determining management practices or meeting required client needs. Assist in the report writing of reclamation sites and study project monitoring needs. Provide leadership and recommendations for ASKI project decision making and project planning.

Accountabilities                                                                                         

·         Conduct technical analyses of survey and field data for development of topographic, soil, hydrological and other information; in conducting field services for civil works

·         Sample and monitor air, water and soil properties depending on project requirements

·         Assisting and/or leading in the development of site plans for projects

·         Develop data management procedures

·         Challenge field conditions

·         Work in the field for extended periods of time with clients and Aski employees

·         Help plan, conduct and lead field work, in a variety of projects including water sampling, vegetation site assessments and revegetation field monitoring

·         Play a mentoring role to less experienced monitoring staff on projects

·         Manage data (data entry, QA/QC, analysis, interpretation, presentation)

·         Create and use maps and other geospatial information

·         Write technical reports and updates to clients

·         Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, practices and standard operating procedures

·         Remain current with environmental legislation and regulatory updates

·         Support project needs related to other disciplines (e.g. wildlife, soils, water)

Education & Qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or another applicable field

·         Strong plant identification skills (knowledge of native plants preferred)

·         Strong technical report writing and data management skills

·         Experience using spreadsheets and GIS programs

·         Able to think critically, problem solve, and prioritize time and effort effectively

·         Strong organizational skills for data collection

·         Comfortable working in remote locations, with access by truck, ATV, boat

·         Physically capable of and willing to access work sites by foot, sometimes in wet and/or steep conditions

·         Valid driver's license with a clean abstract; ability to drive a truck and/or off-road vehicles in rough terrain

·         General understanding of Canadian environmental regulations, guidelines and standards

·         Professional conduct, and strong interpersonal skills

·         Understanding of plant community/ecosite classification systems

·         Demonstrated experience conducting vegetation assessments (rare plants, ecosite mapping, weed surveys)

·         Specialized plant identification skills an asset (e.g. bryophytes, sedges, grasses, weeds, wetland species)

·         Navigation skills, including experience using maps, compass, GPS, and aerial photos

·         Demonstrated leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
