Reclamation Project Manager-Aski Reclamation LP

Aski Reclamation LP. is a First Nation’s owned business situated in North Eastern BC which specializes in site reclamation utilizing native plant species.  Due to the increasing demand on industries to restore land back to its natural state, we are increasingly being sought out to take on more projects and therefore we are expanding our team.  If you are passionate about improving the land and environment through reclamation, we encourage you to apply!

Role Purpose:
The Reclamation Project Manager, under the direction of the General Manager, will be responsible for managing all aspects of our reclamation projects from project application through to project closure.  They will be tasked with effective scoping, budgeting, milestone planning, and execution through the timely completion of deliverables.  By effectively managing a reclamation team, and ensuring quality work is produced, this candidate will also play a key role in the successful retention of reclamation contracts with various entities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Oversee project management to ensure effective scoping, milestone planning, budgeting, and timely completion of deliverables
  • Oversee reclamation team/seasonal workers to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Oversee and assist with environmental audits and inspections, ensuring they are continuously completed to minimize undesirable environmental effects of new or expanded operations; ensure quality assurance and quality control of Aski’s products
  • Manage job site administration duties, such as reviewing/submitting/approving employee timesheets, and completing/maintaining daily logs
  • Complete inspections periodically throughout the construction phases to ensure client specifications are being met
  • Ensure third party contracts are in place as it relates to the project and ensure agreements with multiple parties are adhered to
  • Responsible for review and sign-off on monthly invoices to clients
  • Maintain billable targets as set by General Manager
  • Undertake occasional travel to meet with clients, deliver staff training, or completed project kickoff meetings as needed
  • Oversee reclamation construction sites to ensure compliance with design, project specifications, regulations, and safety codes
  • Ensure that applicable project management practices are followed throughout project lifecycles
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery
  • Act as technical consultant in a reclamation and project management field of expertise

 

Team Management

  • In collaboration with the General Manager and HR, ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal
  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective updates, communications, coaching, training, mentorship, and development opportunities
  • Ensure that all staff under your direction are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment, comply with company policies and procedures, and ethical standards
  • Coordinate activities by setting work schedules, building work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
  • Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations
  • Maintain shift schedules to ensure sufficient employee coverage
  • Plan and conduct meetings with employees to communicate team targets, goals, and projects
  • Review and approve timesheets, expenses, vacation time, and training requests

 

Team Development

  • Participate in departmental team meetings and advise staff and leadership of projects’ progression; advise General Manager of any roadblocks to success or risks to project completion
  • Evaluate policies and procedures and provide recommendations for changes to improve efficiency
  • Prepare and present proposals relating to project budgets, resource allocation, and work processes for better utilization of company resources, efficiency gains, or contract retention
  • Support the General Manager in the develop of long-term project forecasting and project planning
  • Provide excellent levels of service to our internal and external clients and represent Aski and our clients in a professional manner
  • Expand services with existing clients and assist in preparation of RFQ’s

Key Competencies

  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of the various stages of ecological reclamation as it relates to lifecycle planning for oil and gas, mining, and other industries
  • Knowledge inclusive of planning, decommissioning, remediation, reclamation, site assessments, application, review, inspections, and audits as it relates to well site and mine reclamation
  • The ability to design, organize, and oversee a project from scoping and implementation through to execution, while leading a reclamation team and ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget
  • Possess an intrinsic desire to make a positive impact on the environment through land reclamation
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
  • Ability to build, foster and maintain relationships with teams, between agencies, with private individuals, contractors, and industry
  • Ability to work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team in a respectful and collaborative manner

Education and Qualifications

  • Sc. in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Biology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline would be an asset
  • 3 + years’ project management experience, PMP designation would be an asset
  • 3 + years’ experience in reclamation work
  • Knowledge of and experience with environmental standards, and regulations or guidelines and federal and provincial regulations
  • Work experience within the upstream oil and gas industry and/or mine reclamation an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Level 1 First Aid, WHMIS, and H2S
  • BC Driver’s License

Work conditions

  • Interaction with employees, management, and the public at large
  • Extended periods of field work, and other physically demanding conditions
  • Work demands and overtime may be dictated by planting season, project dates, and weather dependencies
  • Travel to surrounding work sites required
