Job Purpose

The Social Transportation Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of Community Members from the Nation to Chetwynd and back on a regular scheduled basis.  The Driver is also responsible to pick up SFN mail and retrieve other goods/items for the Nation.

Outside of the regular trip schedule, the driver may provide transportation of Community Members outside of the region as requested and prescheduled by other departments as approved by the Manager of Member Services on a case-by-case basis.

The Driver is responsible to maintain, coordinate and communicate the trip schedule to all applicable people.

Duties and Responsibilities

Transportation Duties:

  • Safely transports community members to Chetwynd and back in accordance with a regular schedule; coordinates a non-routine weekly schedule outside of regular schedule trips to transports members outside of the region as needed and upon approval of the Manager of Member Services.
  • Assists passengers on and off the vehicle when help is needed.
  • Picks up and delivers SFN daily mail, parcels, and any other goods/items as pre-requested within the trip schedule.
  • Visually inspects the vehicle before beginning the day’s assigned route.
  • Reports any mechanical issues with the vehicle such as brakes, steering, or other issues to the Manager of Membership Services
  • Maintains a daily record of attendance on the vehicle and prepares an observation report when shift is finished.
  • Ensuring a safe environment for passengers, the driver operates the vehicle in a safe and effective manner and drives in accordance with all traffic laws.
  • Arranges timely communications to the community on any changes to trip schedules (such as cancellation due to inclement weather, vehicle servicing, or office closures).
  • Cleans and sanitizes the vehicle before/after each trip.
  • Responds to complaints about schedules and quality of service from the SFN community in a courteous and respectful manner, engaging the Manager or Member Services as required.
  • Makes note of any behavioral or disciplinary concerns, advising the Manager of Member Services of anomalies and recurring patterns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Certifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma minimum requirement.
  • Valid BC Class 4 drivers license or willing to obtain
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check clearance required.
  • Completion of and possession of valid CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Excellent organization and prioritizing skills to effectively manage a schedule.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Knowledge of SFN community and roadways.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide courteous and respectful customer service.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trust and serve as a positive role model.
  • Conflict resolution skills, including pre-emptive problem solving.

Work Conditions

  • Hourly Wage Range: $19.44- $24.84 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Work is typically performed Monday to Thursday 8am to 4:30 pm.
  • Daily travel is required.
  • Works in extreme weather conditions.
  • Primarily works alone.
  • Physical requirement to safely lift up to 50lbs.
