Ahead of the long weekend, the Prince George Fire Centre has implemented a Category 1 Fire Ban – this means no campfires. This is joining the existing bans in place for Category 2 & 3 – which bans torches, chimineas, bonfires, burn piles, grass burns, fireworks, and burn barrels. At this time, we want to encourage our community to take extreme caution around fire-causing activities. Conditions are prime for an aggressive fire event – and we want to do everything we can to prevent that. More details are included in the notice attached here.
As we head into May Long let’s all be mindful that due to current wildfire activity north of Fort St John, emergency resources (police, hospitals, wildfire response) are at extreme capacity and doing their absolute best to keep communities safe. I would encourage us all to be kind and patient with each other as we navigate these stressful times, remembering that it can affect us all in different ways. Stay calm, make a plan in case things go sideways, and do your best to stay safe!
